There's no denying that Drag Queen makeup videos are having a major moment as of late, and it's no wonder why: It's not hard to find yourself completely captivated while watching a next-level transformation. Monét X Change, who came in sixth place on season 10 of RuPaul's Drag Race, is especially entertaining to watch as she's so charismatic, so having her film a makeup tutorial for Allure was everything and more. "The world would be a better place if everyone blended their makeup," she declares in the video above. Watch as she applies a full face beat, complete with a shimmery copper smoky eye and lashes for days.
First things first, Monét starts off with her base, using several shades of foundation to highlight and contour before setting everything to perfection with powder. She reveals that instead of using a cream highlighter like some queens do, she prefers to use her foundation on either side of the bridge of her nose to make it appear more chiseled. "I'm fooling you into thinking I was born with this bone structure, but it's really just paint," she quips.
Then, going in with a beauty sponge, she takes a mineral powder and uses it to blend the foundation and highlight together seamlessly. While doing this, she notes that it's crucial not to drag the sponge across your face, but rather lightly blot to ensure you don't erase your hard work.
As she starts on her eye makeup, Monét explains that you can easily tell what kind of queen one is by looking into their eyes. "Mine are always glittery and fun and loud because I'm glittery and fun and loud," she says with a laugh. She uses a Makeup For Ever Star Lit Liquid on her eyes "because this star is lit."
I'm fooling you into thinking I was born with this bone structure, but
it's really just paint.
She adds that a smoky eye is a go-to for her, which is apparent by the way she applies several shadows and blends them out with ease as if it's nothing. Monét is clearly a makeup maven and further proves this as she finishes off the eyes with stacks of false lashes for extreme flirty volume.
To create her signature Monét X Change nude lip, which she likes to call "Grindr," she applies a chestnut brown lip liner followed by a nude Make Up For Ever Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick, topping that with Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Sepia. To complete the look, she goes over that with Anastasia Beverly Hills lip gloss in Toffee. The finishing touch involves topping the high points of her face with a Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecting Pressed Highlighter ("Becca Highlighters have changed. The. Muther-freakin'. Game.") using a fan brush, and then dotting on a beauty mark on her left cheekbone with liquid liner.
"Beautiful is subjective. Makeup is a guilty pleasure. Confidence is built. Doing drag makeup absolutely makes me feel empowered," Monét concludes, once her makeup is done.
Makeup is for everyone; anyone who wants to do makeup should be able
to do it.
Offering others bits of wisdom throughout the tutorial, she says, "Makeup is for everyone; anyone who wants to do makeup should be able to do it." We couldn't agree more, Monét.
She continues, "What I do want to say, if anyone is thinking about coming out, and you're like, 'I don't know…' Pride Month is the perfect time to do it, girl. It is literally the gayest month of the year. Just be your most gay, authentic self — or gay, lesbian, bi, trans, Q, I, A. All them things."
