The Best Sex Positions, Ranked According to How Long He’ll Last

Sometimes you just want to speed through sex so you don’t miss a single second of the latest episode of KUWTK. (Hey, no judgment.) But other times, it’s nice to pop on some slow jamz and take things nice and slow (cue the Marvin), making things last all night—or at least as long as he can hold back.

Researchers from the University of Kentucky can give you a little help in that department: They recently conducted a series of surveys on sexual dysfunction by asking over 14,000 men and women about their experiences. After taking a look at the results, they discovered which sex positions men and women say lead to a quick finish—and which can go much longer.

Here’s the breakdown of what position people voted on as the most likely to help him go for eons…to how to make him a minute man:

Here’s what those stats look like percentage-wise: Fifty-five percent of men and women surveyed said that the woman-on-top position led to longer sex, while 30 percent said missionary, 25 percent said side-by-side, and 17 percent said doggy style. While there are clear winners (woman on top!) and losers here (doggy style—womp, womp), study coauthor and New York City sex therapist Ian Kerner, Ph.D. says he’s not shocked by the findings.

His male clients who have experienced premature ejaculation say that woman on top is best because ladies get maximum clitoral stimulation (by grinding against a dude’s pelvis) with very little thrusting (which can make him finish too soon).

Also, “if a guy does ejaculate, there’s still a good chance a woman will orgasm as he can continue to ride out what’s left of the erection and still press against her clitoris,” says Kerner.

The base of the penis is the last to go soft, he explains, so you can buy a little more time in this position if you’re not quite done after he finishes. Interesting, right?

Doggy style, meanwhile, is a total time bomb because it creates the most friction against his penis—and that usually speeds up ejaculation, says Kerner.

While switching up your positions can help you two go the distance, lead study author Kristen Mark, Ph.D., director of the Sexual Health Promotion Lab at the University of Kentucky, says the way you do the dirty isn’t the only thing that matters. “Sex is complex,” she says. And she definitely has a point; things like eating more pumpkin to kicking his smoking habit can help his stamina in the sack.

The biggest takeaway here: Unless you’ve got Kardashians to watch, definitely take a pass on doing it doggy.
