Soz in advance for stating the obvious, but Pippa Middleton has an insanely fit rig. Especially for someone who’s heavily pregnant. And as her due date fast approaches (it’s October, FYI), she’s determined to stay in the best shape of her life.
Her secret weapon? Barre workouts.
“I feel far from a ballerina, but I’m equally determined not to break into a penguin-style waddle and plod around with bad posture,” the 35-year-old wrote in a recent column for Waitrose Weekend (via, Hello!)
“So, with this in mind, I’ve continued to embrace barre-inspired workouts throughout pregnancy – a form of exercise taken from ballet which involves the small, isolated movements that develop flattering muscle tone – or so I hope.”
For the uneducated, barre is a form of strength training that’s kinda a mix between ballet, yoga and pilates. It’s low-impact and lengthens the muscles while improving alignment and enhancing flexibility – making it the perf form of exercise for those ‘with child.’
But it’s not the only form of exercise she’s into at the moment. Earlier this year, she penned a couple of articles outlining the health benefits of tennis and swimming: “[Tennis helps with] improved placental growth, good weight management, as well as reducing back pain, strengthening heart and blood vessels, overall body strength and reducing the risk of gestational diabetes,” she wrote.
“Swimming throughout pregnancy offers a wonderful feeling of weightlessness. From personal experience, I’d confidently say I find it has been the most enjoyable and rewarding form of exercise since I found out I was expecting. It’s comforting to know that it’s safe throughout pregnancy and you don’t need to adapt and change much (unlike other sports.)”
