Covid new strain symptoms: The 16 tell-tale signs of coronavirus explained – FULL LIST

Grant Shapps says there’s ’12,000 mutations of Covid-19’

Covid has killed more than 95,000 people in the UK, according to the latest figures. You could be at risk of coronavirus infection if you develop any of the tell-tale signs – and they don’t just include a high fever, a new cough, or a loss of smell or taste.

Covid cases have finally started to fall in the UK, after a full month of rising figures.

More than 80,000 people tested positive for Covid on December 29; the highest number throughout the pandemic.

Since then, fewer and fewer people are testing positive for the infection, although the numbers are still far too high.

In the UK, you should get tested for coronavirus if you develop any of the three key warning signs.

But there are up to 16 total symptoms of the infection, warned University of Kent Professor of Molecular Medicine, Dr Martin Michaelis.

While the Government appears to be focusing on the ‘classic three’ symptoms – a high fever, a new cough, or a loss of smell or taste – there are a number of other signs that people should be looking out for.

More than 10 percent of all patients only develop gastrointestinal symptoms, he warned.

Patients have also reported vertigo, skin rashes, and unexplained sore throats.

“So far, there is no indication that novel variants of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, would change the symptoms associated with Covid-19,” Dr Michaelis told Express Health.

“Given the breadth of symptoms that have already been associated with Covid-19, this may not come as too much of a surprise.

“The UK government focuses on three symptoms: ‘recent onset of a new continuous cough or a high temperature or a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell’.

“However, it is known that Covid-19 can be associated with many more symptoms, including fatigue, muscle and joint pain, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, sore throat, vertigo, skin rashes, headache, dizziness, disorientation, and confusion.”

If you develop any of the three key warning signs of coronavirus, you should self-isolate and get tested straight away.

If your test comes back negative, you can return to normal lockdown life. But if it’s positive, you should continue to self-isolate for a further 10 days.
