Jessica Simpson blew fans away last month when she shared that she lost 100 pounds of baby weight in six months. Now, her trainer is sharing new details on how she did it.
According to her trainer, Harley Pasternak, he and Jessica were in regular communication about her progress. “We had a nightly email [check-in],” he told Us Weekly. Apparently Pasternak does this with other people, too.
“My clients, before they go to bed at night, send me an email and it says, Did you hit your step goal? Yes or no? Did you hit your sleep goal? Yes or no? Did you hit your unplugged goal? Yes or no? Did you hit your food goal? Yes or no?” he said. “To the extent that you check yes, it gives you this sense of accomplishment at the end of every day.”

Pasternak recommends that all of his clients, including Jessica, wear Fitbits and hit a daily steps goal. “Shortly after she gave birth, as soon as we got medical clearance to start walking, we had a daily step goal on her Fitbit,” Pasternak said. “More of a limit if anything because we didn’t want to do too much.” He started Jessica off with a goal of 6,000 steps a day, which is a little more than two miles. But they seriously ramped that up over time, going from 6,000 “to 8,000 to 10,000, eventually to 12,000 and sometimes she even did 14,000 steps a day,” he said.
Jessica also did workouts, but “this was really a lot more emphasis on the behaviors outside of the gym,” Pasternak said. “We did the workout stuff, but that was later on.”
If you think her weight loss is impressive, check out Jessica’s net worth:
In general, most of Jessica’s weight loss came from “five habits that she had to do daily,” Pasternak said. “Number one, hit at least 12,000 steps on her Fitbit. The second is try and get at least seven hours of quality sleep at night, not just quantity. The third was unplug from technology at least an hour a day. The fourth was follow the meal plan, the Body Reset Diet principles and a low sugar diet. Then the fifth, every other day, a short, fun workout.”
Jessica also made sure to avoid alcohol. “She’s not drinking and losing all that weight. That’s for sure,” Pasternak said. “She’s living a healthy, balanced life.” Earlier this week, Pasternak also shared that Jessica ate three meals and two snacks a day that were big on protein, fiber and healthy fat while she was dropping pounds.
It all seems so…doable. Overall, Pasternak seems pretty impressed with Jessica: “She’s just always amazing. I think she’s always got endless energy.”
