For the longest time, guac has been the star of the show at Chipotle. But starting this week, you might be saying avocad-WHO? Because Chipotle is launching a new type of queso and it’s delicious.
Chipotle will be selling Queso Blanco starting this Thursday. You might be thinking, “hey, Kristin, doesn’t Chipotle already have queso? This is old news.” Well, you’re wrong! This is a whole new national menu item that will replace the current queso on Chipotle’s menu.
The chain’s new queso recipe uses 13 real ingredients, including aged Monterey Jack and white cheddar, as well as serrano, poblano and chipotle peppers, and it’s a lot different from the current queso on the menu, which, uh, let’s just say not everyone loved!
If this is STILL ringing a bell for you, you might be remembering that Chipotle tested Queso Blanco in several U.S. cities last year, so this is actually the result of a successful test run.
“Queso Blanco is the third new menu item that has completed Chipotle’s ‘stage-gate process,’ which allows the company to test, learn, listen to customer feedback, and iterate extensively before moving forward with a national launch,” the company said in a release.
If you don’t trust random test subjects, take our word for it: We tried the new queso ahead of the launch and were pleasantly surprised! We consider ourselves queso connoisseurs over here and would order this on our next Chipotle run. While it’s not something you’d necessarily want inside a burrito (too messy maybe), it’s the perfect companion for chips.
If you’ve made it this far, you must be intrigued enough, so I don’t know, try it for yourself! Share your thoughts online, make a TikTok. You know what to do.
