Jessica Ashwood: The Aussie Swimmer Who Proves That Can’t Is Just A Four-Letter Word

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be Jess Ashwood’s second Olympic campaign, she first represented Australia at the 2012 London Olympics in the 800m freestyle. This year she will represent Australia in both the 400m and 800m freestyle.

There is more than meets the eye for this Sydney born swimmer. In her early teens Jess was diagnosed with sever scoliosis due the S-bend shape of her spine. Ashwood must have two physiotherapy sessions a week after training to put her twisted spine back into alignment.

The 23-year-old currently holds the Australian record for both the 400m and 800m freestyle and is one of the favourites to take out the 800m freestyle at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

She is also currently studying a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice with a Bachelor of Psychological Science at Griffith University in Queensland.
