Type-2 diabetes is a condition that causes the level of sugar in the blood to increase.
Millions of people in the UK suffer from health problem, although many might not be diagnosed.
Symptoms of type-2 diabetes include rapid weight loss, extreme thirst and the need to urinate more often.
Fortunately those with the condition can reduce blood sugar levels by watching what they eat and drink daily.
According to Diabetes UK, making a few simple swaps to your diet is enough to reduce the risk.
The website advises using pure fruit spread or mashed banana instead of jam for toast.
Although fruit still contains sugar, it is natural as opposed to the artificial sugars found in jam.
Diabetes suffers are advised to include fruit in their diet as it contains vast amounts of essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients.
People could try making their own fruit spread by mashing up a banana or even a marmalade.
To make your own marmalade, zest three medium oranges, before adding the zest to a 200ml jug of boiling water.
Cut the orange, then segment and chop the flesh to add into the jug. After squeeze the core of the orange to et the juice out.
Allow the mixture to cook, before putting it into a large jar, mixing, sealing and refrigerating for two to three hours.
