Almonds, chocolates and 7 other foods which help to boost sex drive in men

Watermelon

“Watermelon contains the phytonutrient citrulline that gets converted into arginine. This amino acid helps in relaxing the blood vessels, which further leads to improved blood flow to the penis and therefore, boosts sex drive,” says Delhi-based Dr Sunita Arora, who works at Fortis Bloom IVF Centre, Fortis La Femme.

Potassium

Foods high in potassium like avocado, dried apricots, coconut water are rich in Potassium. Low level of potassium causes imbalances in electrolytes and leads to high blood pressure which can result in erectile dysfunction. Avoid foods high in sugar and fat as these can be a major cause for erectile dysfunction.

Almonds

Research indicates that Vitamin E-rich foods encourage the production of sex hormones. Almonds have an abundance of Vitamin E, among all nuts and seeds.

Chocolate

“Dark chocolate helps release serotonin and endorphins. These chemicals improve mood and boost sex drive in men,” says Dr Arora.

Coffee

Caffeine is a known vasoconstrictor which can reduce blood flow if coffee is consumed in excess. However, drinking 2–3 cups of coffee per day may help in boosting sex drive in men, according to research.

Saffron

Saffron is a natural aphrodisiac and improves sex drive. It also increases a man’s stamina and energy in bed.

Eggs

“Eggs help in balancing hormone levels and fights stress as it contains Vitamins B5 and B6 in abundance. It also helps in increasing the libido,” says Dr Kanu Singh Rajput, a sexologist on the medical app, Lybrate.

Nuts

Nuts are a rich source of energy, protein, and minerals. Nuts like almonds and pistas are a natural source of Zinc, Manganese and Copper which help in maintaining the erection of penis. These nuts are also known for improving the sperm quality and count.

Zinc

“Zinc improves the flow of blood to major organs of the body. Dark green vegetables are a rich source of Zinc. A person suffering from this disease should consume dark green vegetables as it will help in improving the flow of blood to the penis,” says Dr Rajput.
