Google has just released the most Googled diets of 2016. Some of the diets that made the list we expected but some very, very surprising diets made the list.
1. GOLO diet
The GOLO diet claims to utilise insulin levels in the body to help reduce fat storages in the body. It has been created by a team of doctors but there is not yet any conclusive evidence to prove any benefits.
2. Taco diet
Is actually not a diet but is based off a popular book “The Taco Cleanse” which was released late in 2015. It includes 30 days of vegan taco recipes.

3. Military diet substitute
Similar to the 5:2 diet, the diet works on a 3 days on and 4 days off basis. “On” days require you to consume less than 1,000 calories a day and “off” days you are recommended to consume 1,500 calories.
4. Atkins 40
The success of the Atkins diet lives on in 2016, on this plan you are allowed 40grams of carbs per day. It also allows three 4-6oz servings of protein and 2-4 servings of fat per day. Although due to the fact that carbohydrate intake is limited set off some red flags for health professionals.
5. Ketogenic diet foods
High in fat, average protein and low in carbs sums up this diet pretty well. The diet claims to reboot your metabolism, lower body fat and increase energy levels. High fat diets have often been linked to high levels of cholesterol and increased risk of heart disease as well as some other nasty side effects.
6. Dissociated diet
This diet requires you to consume one type of food per day. Dieters have three options: make each meal from a different food group, dedicate each day to eating foods from a single food group or follow one of their designed plans because it can be totally confusing.
7. Wild diet
No, this diet doesn’t allow you to “go wild” and party your way to weight loss. It is about getting back into the wild, eating as our grandparents would have. Think lots of whole foods, pasture-raised meals and good fats and a lot less of processed and packaged foods.
8. Pizza diet
The pizza diet started when Matt McClellan, ate pizza only for one month and lost almost 15kg. Over the past 6 years he has perfected the diet which includes 6 slices of thin crust pizza topped with lean protein and fresh veggies.
9. Dukan diet
The Dukan diet is another dark horse on the list. It is made up of four stages: attack, cruise, consolidation and stabilisation. Think lots of veggies and lean protein – when you break it down it doesn’t sound too different to any other high protein, low carbohydrate diets.
10. Mono diet
The mono diet believes in eating a single type of food. It is similar to diet #6 but focuses on a food in particular in comparison to a food group. For example Freelee, “the banana girl” who eats 30-40 bananas a day.
Whilst the list is an interesting read, researchers suggest that most of these diets are googled as people are curious and don’t indicate how many people are actually following these diets. You can check out the top fitness trends of 2017 here.
