We’re all guilty of indulging in some ice cream from time to time, but what if no longer have to feel guilty for chowing down on one of our favourite desserts?
Japanese professor Yoshihiko Koga, lecturer at Tokyo’s Kyorin University, found that consuming ice cream early in the morning can “improve alertness and mental performance,” reported by the Daily Mail.
The study showed that participants who had the ice cold treat upon waking had faster reaction times carrying out mental tasks than those who hadn’t eaten ice cream.
Scientists could not believe the results, testing with cold water to see if it was because of the temperature.
The results showed that those who drank the water also achieved a better result than those who didn’t, although it was nowhere near as effective as the ice cream was in the first test.
Yet to discover the reason why ice cream boosts brainpower, Yoshihiko and other researchers suggest that the glucose levels in the ice cream could be the contributor, with glucose being an essential component to the functioning of your brain.
“That, or it may be psychological,” said Yoshihko.
Psychological or not, ice cream for breakfast is something we can get behind (although your waistline probably disagrees). Just don’t let the kids catch wind of this.
