Brows are important. Anyone who says otherwise is either living in a bubble or trying to sabotage you. That said, not everyone is born with voluminous, well-shaped, and naturally defined Brooke Shields-esque brows. There is such a thing as brow privilege, and I am one of those people on the outside of it. This mostly means that I'm a seasoned aficionado of brow products since I try them all. I always get excited when a drugstore brand can serve up an exciting new brow product, like the Maybelline New York Tattoo Studio Brow Pomade.
The Tattoo Studio brow fam is steadily growing. Most recently, the Tattoo Studio Brow Tint Pen made the viral rounds as a felt-tipped brow pen that mimicked microblading. And this year kicked off with the Tattoo Studio Brow Gel, a long-wearing stain that lasts for days. Basically, if you have brows, Maybelline New York has you covered. Coming soon to the brand's brow suite is something that's been missing from the oevure: a brow pomade.
I love a good brow pomade for its flexibility of use. This one comes with a small angled brush that has a spoolie on one end, so you can paint hair-line strokes and then brush it out to blend. The formula, like its other Tattoo Studio brow buds, is long-wearing, waterproof, and smudge-proof. It comes in eight shades: Light Blonde, Blonde, Soft Brown, Medium Brown, Ash Brown, Deep Brown, Black Brown, and Auburn. (Maybe redheads won't have to use lip liner to define their brows anymore.)
I like how creamy the gel pigment is; you can get a lot on the brush with one gentle swipe and it glides like a dream when you paint it on. If you really want to bulk up your brows, the pomade is flexible enough that you can pick up some pigment with the spoolie and brush it through your brow hairs to give them some extra volume and thickness. Going about my day without any particularly vigorous disturbances (other than the general face-palming one does on a regular basis), this stuff stayed put through the humidity and sweat of an NYC summer day. Not bad, Maybelline New York, not bad.
There's a slightly annoying downside, though. Unfortunately, you'll have to get through two major holidays before you'll be able to try this baby out. The Tattoo Studio Brow Pomade won't be in drugstores until January 2019, so you can consider this a really early sneak peek. Hey, if nothing else, it's something to look forward to in the new year. Here's to better days with better brows.
