Move over jade, makeup artist Jillian Dempsey is bringing 24-carat gold to the beauty tool business.
While traveling in Japan, Dempsey discovered a skin sculpting and contouring device called the Japanese Gold Sculpting Bar. She liked it so much, she secured an exclusive deal to attach her name to the tool as well as have distribution rights in the U.S.
“I decided to do a beauty tool because I found it to be highly effective,” Dempsey told WWD. “I love Japan and I’m a big fan of Japanese beauty, so it is an honor to be representing something that is a Japanese tool.”
Not only is it gold-plated, Dempsey’s Gold Bar is a battery-operated vibrating t-bar designed to mimic the effects of lymphatic drainage massage. “As soon as I tried this tool, I knew I wanted to put my name on it. I use it to prep the skin for each one of my jobs as it provides unparalleled results in sculpting faces along the cheek bones and jaw lines, reducing the appearance of puffiness within minutes,” she said.
Dempsey posts videos on how to use the Gold Bar on her web site. One important tip is that the tool must be used on makeup-free, clean skin and is a good prep for makeup application. She noted the device is also gaining traction with men. “My husband stole my first one,” she said. “It is especially good for the jaw line and what man doesn’t want a have jaw line?”
The Gold Bar retails for $195 at jilliandempsey.com. She also sells her own eponymously named cosmetics on her site as well as a Violet Grey and Credo and doesn’t rule out expanding the Gold Bar distribution.
The device market is on the upswing in the U.S., according to Kline research, driven by social media posts. After a few quiet years, sales expanded almost 2 percent in 2017 and should be at least double that when the books are closed on 2018.
