For two months, Too Faced co-founder and chief creative officer Jerrod Blandino has taken to Instagram to tease a major upcoming launch. Low-res shots of packaging with the details crossed out gave way to professionally photographed flat lays of a handful of vivid, adorably designed products. Little leaks here and there gave fans hints that the collection, called Tutti Frutti, would be colorful, scented, and downright humongous. But it wasn't until now that Blandino has revealed everything about the highly anticipated new line.
"As the originator of makeup that smells as good as it looks, I always like to push myself," Blandino tells Allure, referring not only to the brand's recent and beloved peach-scented collection, but also its classic chocolate-scented bronzers, too. "Our scented makeup has been such a phenomenal success that I wanted to play with the idea of creating an entire new line based on sugary and sweet fruit. All of the color and scent and texture possibilities were just too much to pass up. A wide range of fruits is full of unlimited possibilities."
That wide range of scents in the whopping 53-product collection includes pineapple, cherry, pink lemonade, grapefruit, and berries, which gave Blandino the greatest source of inspiration when it came to the makeup itself. "There are so many different colors and textures, and berries are so juicy and shimmery. The beautiful cool-toned colors with pops of warmth are just so modern and fresh."
That's instantly apparent with the Razzle Dazzle Berry Eye Shadow Palette, one of the products Blandino playfully teased us with on Instagram a few weeks ago. It features berry-scented matte, metallic, and satin shadows in neutral, pink, and purple shades that pledge intense color payoff in a single swipe. The same promise applies to the Sparkling Pineapple Eye Shadow Palette, but with a range of cream, brown, and gold shades and a scent that, in my opinion, leans more piña colada than pineapple.
Other pressed-powder formulas in the Tutti Frutti collection include four Fruit Cocktails Strobing Blush Duos (below) and a Pineapple Paradise Strobing Bronzer, all which feature two complementary shades in a satin finish and a shimmery finish. Made for buildable color payoff, each one allows you to mix the shades together or use them individually, and all smell incredible, of course.
Blandino's favorite product in the Tutti Frutti collection, however, is the Twinkle Twinkle Liquid Glitter Eye Shadow, which comes in "eight fruit-inspired shades" — though somehow a Macchiato Madness slipped in there. "The whipped, creamy mouse formula gets better as it dries. And they don’t crease or fade, so they’re party-proof,' Blandino raves. "The shades are very wearable with beautiful and luminous pops of color." The same could be said about Juicy Fruits Comfort Lip Glaze, the fruit-scented lip gloss that comes in 12 surprisingly high-impact shades.
Perhaps the most surprising inclusion in this otherwise super-colorful, downright glitzy collection is a new foundation called Dew You Full-Coverage Fresh Glow Foundation, of which Blandino says, "I wanted you to be able to have that 'just swallowed a lightbulb' look." To clarify, he doesn't mean a bleeding esophagus — "just how you look after you do your skin-care routine and your skin has that beautiful luminosity." Despite that dewiness, it promises to even out your skin tone and cover imperfections for hours on end. And in keeping with the fruit theme, "It's infused with watermelon and cucumber to hydrate and keep radiance in the skin so you can keep the ethereal glow strong all day and night."
The Tutti Frutti collection will also include Dew You Fresh Glow Setting Spray (seen above with the foundation), Frosted Fruits Highlighter Sticks in two shades, Fresh Squeezed Highlighter Drops in two shades, and my personal favorite, It's Bananas Setting Powder. You can get a sneak peek of the collection on toofaced.com right now before it hits Ulta on August 15. While you're there, please enjoy the anthropomorphized pineapple who, if I'm not mistaken, is doing the "Single Ladies" dance.
