While the Duke of Sussex was able to resume his royal duties quite quickly after baby Archie’s birth on May 6th, the Duchess of Sussex has very much been out of the royal spotlight.
The new mom has been spending quality time with her newborn at the couple’s Frogmore Cottage home, only stepping out for a few engagements following his arrival. Her most recent appearances — one at Wimbledon with Duchess Kate and the other at London’s The Lion King premiere, were welcomed appearances by royal fans. Her outings, however, were also met with some cruel backlash from critics, especially pertaining to her body.

“Meghan is twice the DoC’s size!” wrote one follower on an Instagram photo of Meghan at Wimbledon. “She should have lost that by now!” commented another, referring to her weight.
Because of their global positions, the royal family is subjected to intense scrutiny and media attention, especially right after giving birth. Duchess Kate took to the hospital steps in heels and a fresh blowout right after the birth of all of her three children, most recently just a few hours after Prince Louis’ arrival.
However, Meghan has pushed back against royal protocol on multiple occasions following the birth of Archie, from his christening to public photos.

Reports reveal that the Duchess of Sussex is intent on taking a realistic approach to her baby weight and is hoping her message spreads to other new moms. “It’s not easy to lose the weight, but she’s happy to be a realistic example for new mothers,” said a source to Us Magazine. As it should be, her focus is on “adjusting to motherhood” as opposed to her weight.
The 37-year-old briefly alluded to these public pressures while at The Lion King premiere a few weeks ago. “They don’t make it easy,” the duchess said to Pharrell on the red carpet.
“So happy for your union. Love is amazing, it’s wonderful,” he said to the royal. “We cheer you guys on.”
