We Can't Stop Listening to Michelle Obama's 2020 Workout Playlist

A few weeks into the new year, any of that chipper “fresh start’ momentum you might’ve had to make it to the gym (or to spin class or to manage some early morning stretches or cardio) has likely fizzled. We get it, it’s cold, everything is next-level stressful and sometimes working out, even if it makes you feel good, is annoying and time-consuming. Luckily, former FLOTUS Michelle Obama, who just celebrated her 56th birthday (oh hey Capricorns!) also gets it and gave us the gift of her own amazing workout playlist to power us through the weeks ahead.

“It’s about that time when New Year’s goals and resolutions get just a bit harder to stick to. To offer a little inspiration, I want to share my go-to 2020 #WorkoutPlaylist with all of you,” Obama wrote in her Sunday instagram post sharing the playlist. “These songs always seem to give me that extra boost to get through my toughest workouts.”

The playlist is a master-class is songs that will get you hyped up, sustain you through parts of a workout that might make your legs or arms scream (if you’re into that) and wind you back down to do whatever else is on your agenda for the day. It also makes for a good soundtrack for staying motivated on a Monday-like Tuesday — which this writer desperately needed.

Kicking it off with feel-good, self-love vibes from “A God Like You” by Kirk Franklin, the playlist takes you through some Lizzo, Jennifer Lopez, The Carters, Destiny’s Child, 2 Chanz feat. Ariana Grande, Libra-icon Bruno Mars, Koffee and more. Then it takes the pivot to the cool down section (my favorite) with “24/7” by Meek Mill feat. Ella Mai, “I Want You Around” by Snoh Aalegra, “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith feat. John Legend and more before closing it all out with “Collide” by Tiana Major9 & EARTHGANG (a truly cozy banger from the “Queen & Slim” soundtrack to ease you back as you take care of your tired bod).

The whole playlist has been compiled on Spotify for easy access. So give it a listen during your next workout to feel like Michelle’s cheering you on all the way through.
