Tinder Will Not Let You Block Your Ex

We’ve all been there: taking a discerning scroll through potential suitors on Tinder, only to feel your heart fall out your butt as an image of your ex pops up on the screen. Your eyes flash to the bio, then to the images selected for the profile, most of which are the ones you took when the pair of you were once happy and in the throes of passionate love. Without a second thought, tinder is deleted from the phone as you throw it across the room in a mild panic.

The jolting reminder of heartbreak is never quite easy to deal with and while they say things get easier with time, sometimes the painful memories surrounding an ex flame are just too much to bear. Certainly it’s one thing when you see them coming down the street with enough time to then cross to the other side in avoidance, but to see their mug blown up on your phone screen as you simply attempt to spark new connections on Tinder…that’s just cruel.

Thankfully, Tinder is now introducing a new feature that will mean you can avoid this awkwardness. After a recent survey commissioned by the company found that more than 40 per cent of respondents had come across an ex-partner on a dating app, with another 24 per cent having seen a family member or colleague, or even their professor’s profile. The survey also revealed that, given the chance, 78 per cent of those surveyed would prefer not to have seen these connections on the app.

Tinder Will Soon Let You Do A Background Check On Your Potential Suitor

Here’s What Tinder’s ‘Are You Sure?’ Feature Actually Is

For this reason, the feature Block Contacts will begin rolling out across Australia. It means members everywhere will be able to access it within their profile settings to ensure they can input those contacts they’d prefer not to see, or not be seen by, on Tinder. Regardless of whether these contacts are already on the app or might download it later using the same contact info, it still means they won’t appear as a potential match, and vice versa.

Bernadette Morgan, Group Project Manager, Trust and Safety at Tinder, explained: “We may not be able to save you from the awkward run-ins at the coffee shop, but we are giving you more control over your experience on Tinder.” Morgan added, “We’re rolling out Block Contacts as an additional resource empowering members with peace of mind by helping create a worry-free space for them to spark new connections.”

Already, the feature has been tested in India, Korea and Japan, where members who adopted the feature added about a dozen contacts to their block list. If 2021 is your year to find love, it goes without saying that you don’t need the painful reminder of an ex getting in the way.
