Less cases of cancer since HPV-vaccination

Two types of the human papilloma virus (HPV), the trigger is often cervical cancer, since the introduction of vaccination on the March back. This shows a recent study in the journal "Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention" appeared.

According to the study, the number of cancer precursors caused by HPV is decreased, between 2008 and 2014, to 21 per cent. Also in unvaccinated women, the two most dangerous types of HPV-16 and 18 were found less frequently. This is probably due to a "Herdenimmunität" due: This means that a large part of the population has immunity, and therefore are generally less likely to infections.

According to U.S. statistics, 49.5 percent of the girls and 37.5% of boys aged 13 to 17 years of age in the USA are fully vaccinated. The author of the study Dr. Nancy McClung said: "This is a clear proof that the HPV vaccine prevents young women in the United States, cervical cancer. In the next few years we should see an even greater effect because more women were in young adulthood and prior to the contact with the HPV vaccination." It recommends that all children should be vaccinated at the age of 11 or 12 years.

Almost every person who is sexually active, infected at some point with HPV. Most of the infections disappear on its own, but some persist and cause cell changes that develop slowly to a cancer. HPV types 16 and 18 cause 70 percent of all carcinomas of the cervix is responsible.
