'Dance Moms' Star Abby Lee Miller Just Revealed She's Officially Cancer Free

  • Abby Lee Miller announced she is cancer free in a new interview.
  • After being diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma in April 2018, Abby has undergone 10 rounds of chemo and multiple emergency surgeries.
  • Abby returns to Dance Moms for season eight in June.

After more than a year of fighting for her life, Abby Lee Miller is finally cancer free.

The Dance Moms star, 53, shared the good news with People in an interview promoting the new season of her hit Lifetime show. “The cancer is completely gone,” she said.

To recap: Abby was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma, a rare, aggressive type of cancer, in April 2018 after emergency spinal surgery. Since then, it’s been a long, winding road of treatment for Abby, who also had to learn how to walk again after two emergency surgeries on her spine, in addition to chemotherapy.

Abby calls her experience with the rare form of cancer the biggest fight of her life—but she’s happy to be on the other side of her battle now. “I’m more than grateful. I’m thankful,” she told People.

“I was always grateful but I think I must say ‘Thank you’ a hundred times a day because I have to rely on strangers,” she said. “Someone to open the door, someone to get the hanger off the rack at the department store, someone to pick up my phone if I drop it. How am I supposed to get it? I’m very grateful and thankful to strangers that have been so kind.”

As far as Abby’s motivation to make it through her treatment, she says her future dreams gave her an extra push: “I pushed through because I feel like I have more to do,” she said. “I want to be an executive producer. I have three other shows and a cartoon that I’ve created. I want to do what I really do — I create. I can make something magical and wonderful out of nothing. I do it every week.”

Another motivating factor: To walk again. Though she uses a wheelchair now, Abby is optimistic about walking again. “If I can move, I can stand,” she said. “I’m supposed to stand three times a day for twenty minutes. I can take a right step because I can put my weight on my left knee then when I take a left step my right leg just crumbles because I need a knee replacement.”

It sounds like Abby is nowhere near done with her journey yet—and you don’t have to wait long to hear more of her story. Abby returns to Dance Moms season eight on June 4, premiering on Lifetime. With this big fight behind her, Abby has a lot of celebrate.
