Adorable cancer survivor meets bone marrow donor – as flower girl at her wedding

Years after her life was saved by a bone marrow donation, three-year-old Skye Savren-McCormick finally got to meet one of her donors.

And the pair didn’t just meet anywhere.

They were united at the donor’s wedding, where young Skye was invited to be flower girl.

Before she had even turned one, Skye was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia, a very rare form of cancer that meant she had to have blood and platelet transfusions almost daily.

The toddler from California was given a 10 percent survival rate and desperately needed a bone marrow transplant.

This is where the bride, Hayden Hatfield Ryals came in.

The 26-year-old from Alabama had registered as a donor while in college and soon discovered she was a perfect match for Skye.

Wanting to help, she donated anonymously.

Skye underwent a series of transplants, with the final one taking place in April 2017.

She’s now in remission following the transplants and other treatments such as chemotherapy.

Through the organisation, Be The Match, Hayden was able to get in contact with Skye’s family to find out more about the procedure.

They quickly struck up a friendship talking over text and Facebook Messenger.

This continued until Skye’s third birthday when Hayden sent her a beautiful gift.

Her present to Skye was an invite to be the flower girl at her wedding to fiancé Adrian Ryals.

Hayden and Skye met for the very first time at the wedding rehearsal and according to Skye’s mother their connection was evident to all.

"We were in the front, looking around, and she [Hayden] came in and immediately came over to Skye and dropped to her knees," Talia Savren NcCormick said to CNN.

"It was so sweet, it was like they were in love."

Skye wore an adorable white dress with a blue ribbon to walk down the aisle with her basket of flowers on the big day.

Guests at the ceremony said she threw most of the petals on the ground in one handful before even taking her first step.

Her mum revealed that a bridesmaid had told her many of the guests were ‘ugly crying’ over the pair.

She added that she looked forward to seeing Hayden and Skye’s bond grow as the toddler gets older.
