We're actually loving the reason behind the hole in Burger King's Whoppers

If you thought Burger King wouldn’t somehow get in on the action this National Doughnut Day, oh, you were sorely mistaken. No, they aren’t adding doughnuts to their menu — the fast food giant is transforming a popular menu item into one.

Burger King plans to punch a hole in their Whoppers, calling it — are you ready for it? — the Whopper Donut. As for the center of the burger they’re cutting out? They’re serving it on the side as a “free” mini slider, their version of a doughnut hole. Now, how cute is that? The fast-food chain is calling this the first flame-grilled doughnut ever, and we can’t argue with that.

The Whopper Donut will be available for one day only, this Friday, in select locations in Boston, Miami Beach, Los Angeles, New York City and Salt Lake City.

  • 128 Tremont St. in Boston
  • 1100 Fifth St. in Miami Beach
  • 1601 N. Hacienda Blvd. in Los Angeles
  • 327 W. 42nd St. in New York City
  • 2450 S. 1900 W. in Salt Lake City

Don’t worry if you aren’t near one of these Burger Kings — you aren’t totally out of luck. In fact, BuzzFeed‘s Tasty recently released a tutorial video showing you how you can make your very own Whopper Donut. And honestly, we can’t stop laughing at how ridiculous this all is. Just wait until you get to the part where they show you how to use common household objects, like shot glasses and Champagne flutes, to make the Whopper Donut. It’s great.

So head to BK or DIY. Either way, it’s about time we all got our Whopper Donut on.
