Here's How I Inspired Moda to Create This $5 Eye Shadow Brush

No one will probably write a song about me, paint a portrait of me, or pen a poem about me. I've made my peace with that. However, my makeup routine has inspired a brand-new eye shadow brush, though. Moda launched the Triad Eye Brush this week, and its shape is based on a tip I shared almost a year ago.

How the Triad Eye Brush Came to Be

Many professional makeup artists will tell you that the key to a beautifully blended eye makeup look is the right brushes and that you'll need at least three. One is a densely packed brush for laying down pigments, and the other two are clean, fluffy ones for blending. Personally, I just need one, and it's not even an eye brush — it was actually created for base makeup.

Moda's Triad Concealer Brush, which was created for applying undereye concealer in a precise way, is my favorite. Even though its name is clearly printed on its pink handle, I had no idea that the brush's intended use was for blending concealer until I was writing about the best eye shadow brushes for beginners. For months before, I believed its unique, triangle shape was specifically designed for pressing pigment onto your lids with the dense sides and blending out the edges with the fluffy tip.

The lovely people over at Moda heard about my accidental Triad Concealer Brush trick. With some tweaks, they realized the brush could be more effective for eye shadow application. Enter the Triad Eye Brush. (Unfortunately, it's not called the "Devon Abelman Eye Brush," but that's OK — I understand that I have a very niche fanbase that primarily includes my sisters' friends and approximately three K-pop fans.)

What Makes This Brush Special

The new brush has the same triangular shape that I love about the Triad Concealer Brush but with shorter bristles and a golden handle. Cutting down the bristle length allows you to sweep on shadow without kickback. The longer ones of the Triad Concealer Brush, on the other hand, often cause fallout. The bristles are also stiffer, ensuring your favorite shadow appears as pigmented on your eyes as it looks in the pan. I swear it will make your shadow look as opaque as it would if you were to put it on with your fingertip. It won't be like one of those brushes that basically eats shadow and only coats your lids in a subtle dusting of the most pigmented formulas.

The stiffer, shorter triangular shape also helps me easily create winged shadow, which is my one of my go-to looks. All I have to do is press the brush on the outer corner of my eyes and drag it down toward my lashline like you would when drawing on winged liner. The triangular shape is essential here because it forms the sharp winged shape without having to clean up the edges with a wipe. Then, I can flip the brush over and blend out the edges around my creases with the fluffy tip.

Just like the Triad Concealer Brush, the new eye edition has incredibly soft synthetic bristles that are as velvety as a puppy's ears. The price is the same, too. The Moda Triad Brush rings up at $5, and you can shop it now on modabrush.com.
