Exclusive: Your First Look at the GORGEOUS Julep 2018 Holiday Collection

Between the limited edition shades, cheeky product names, and whimsical packaging that you'll probably want to repurpose as home decor, there are countless reasons to get excited about holiday beauty launches. And although summer is still technically here, some of the best launches are already rolling in, and Allure was able to get an exclusive sneak peek of the Julep 2018 holiday collection, created in collaboration with Parisian illustrator and textile designer Barbara Agnes.

"Two years ago I was in Paris with my daughter, Yumi. What I didn’t expect to come out of a mother/daughter trip to Europe was lots of creative inspiration," Jane Park, Julep founder and CEO, shared over email. "We found ourselves at Free Persephone, a gorgeous boutique and spa on Boulevard Raspail. Barbara’s work adorns the property and I recognized it from a scarf my sister bought for me at Lane Crawford in Singapore a year prior. I figured there was a reason I was seeing the her work around the globe and the universe was telling me I must find a way to work with her. I brought samples back to the office and the entire creative team was smitten."

For the next 18 months, Agnes and Julep creative director Loann Lam worked to create three exclusive Julep patterns to adorn the holiday packaging. The concept fell on romance, which was brought to life by with deep hues and intricate florals, walking the fine line between delicate and daring. The collection is made up of eight different sets, which are stocked with both fan favorites and recent launches, including their nail polishes, eye shadows, liners, and a multitude of lip formulas. Best part? Nothing is over $50, so you can snag something as a "gift" for someone else, and for yourself too.

Two of the eight sets are focused on nail polishes, a category that Park notes is one of the most successful for the brand year after year. This holiday season, you'll find #Coveted, a 12-piece mini-polish set of the brand's most popular shades ranging from a pastel yellow to a deep, black-ish purple; and Hypnotic Frenzy, a six-piece mini polish set with all new jewel-tone shades and metallic finishes.

Park and Lam developed three sets for the eyes. There's the Grand Illusions palette, an 11-shadow pan of versatile neutrals, deep coppers and plums, that also includes a black pencil liner and mirror; Soaring Lines, a kit consisting of the brand's popular When Pencil Met Gel long-lasting liner in ten different transcendental, gemstone shades; and Flutter Away, a five-piece set including four neutral shades of the When Pencil Met Gel liner (think basics like brown, black, bronze, and gold), as well as a chic sharpener to always keep them on point. "Barbara was able to do this incredible detail work in deep hues for our When Pencil Met Gel eyeliner sets and eye shadow palette," says Park. "It’s dreamy and festive for holiday gifting, though I plan to use the palette (with its mauves, purples, and nudes) year round.

The remaining three sets are all focused on the lips, a category that Julep has become quite favored for. You'll have the opportunity to really sample all of the great formulas the brand has to offer, which as Park explains, are all very different.

"We’re able to have many different, successful lip products because they each give a different result, all while delivering great skin-care benefits," she says. "Our It’s Whipped matte lip mousse has antioxidant-rich rosehip seed oil to nourish the lips, unlike so many matte lip products. You get that incredible, full-coverage matte lip without the dryness, people don’t believe me until they try it. The It’s Balm on the other hand gives a full coverage semi-gloss finish while sunflower butter and vitamin E hydrate." And as for the recently launched So Plush, Park describes this as the perfect formula for anyone looking for less opacity but still, some serious shine. "[It's an] ultra hydrating lip gloss with hyaluronic spheres to hydrate and plump. I had sworn off gloss because the sticky feel just wasn’t worth it. We were able to remove the stickiness and instead protect your lips — I’m now never without it!"

You can give each of those formulas a try in Full Swoon, a trio set that gives you three different takes on the perfect mauve-y nude. The Kiss and Tell lip crayon set offers five different shades — including a caramel nude, poppy pink, and a subtle mauve — in the It's Balm formulation. And lastly, Mad Plush, the smallest of the eight sets offers a duo of the So Plush ultra-hydrating lip gloss in warm mauve and hot pink. Regardless of which set is more your speed, you're guaranteed shades and formulas that work for everyday.

"This collaboration was truly a very organic and natural process," says Agnes. "My style is fairly whimsical with a romantic edge which I believe lend itself really well to this holiday range. I wanted to embellish this collection with the magical feeling that Julep makeup brings to us over this festive season."

Thankfully, for Julep and beauty lovers everywhere, that's exactly what she did, and you don't have to wait until the proper holiday season to get your hands on it. The full collection will be on sale at all Ulta locations on September 23, with Nordstrom following in November, as well as online at Julep, Amazon, and QVC.
